What can you do near Port Zante?
For a first look at St. Kitts, start with the capital around you. Central Basseterre offers historic landmarks, shops and the National Museum. Our Basseterre walking guide helps you choose a manageable city visit rather than automatically booking a full island tour.
If you want to go farther, choose one main interest: a beach day, a rum experience, a heritage outing or the stingray encounter. Decide whether you need an organised pickup or will arrange a transfer yourself. The same destination can be reached through different ticket arrangements with different inclusions.
Start with your ship’s schedule
A good cruise day begins with the time you need to be back aboard. Write down your ship’s all-aboard time, then work backward with your excursion team. Docking time, the time you can actually leave the ship and the confirmed tour meeting time are separate details. Check whether your phone and ship are using the same time before relying on an alarm.
Send the team your ship’s name, arrival date, arrival time and all-aboard time. Ask them to confirm that your chosen itinerary fits. A one-hour encounter describes the activity at Carambola; it does not include the drive, Timothy Hill stop or time spent meeting your group.
An example using the 10:00 AM departure: a 10:00 direct encounter calls for arrival at Carambola by 09:45 and finishes around 11:00. You still need travel time in both directions. The shore beach-break package allows three hours at Carambola, with its pickup, Timothy Hill and return journey arranged separately.
Use your actual confirmed session and pickup times when planning. Published departure times are 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, St. Kitts local time; check date-specific availability when booking.
Choose the day you want
The US$124 shore excursion suits guests who want the stingray encounter and a return to Port Zante afterward. The US$145 shore excursion adds two hours of beach time at Carambola and a beach bed. Both include pickup, the Timothy Hill stop and return transport.
The beach option means three hours at Carambola in total, with transfers and the viewpoint stop added to that. Choose it for an unhurried beach afternoon only when it fits your port call. Food, additional drinks and professional encounter photos are separate purchases.
Compare the shore-excursion options and full itineraries. Online checkout for these packages is coming soon; use the contact page to confirm availability and timing.
Rum classes, beaches and other cruise-day options
Academy of Rum St. Kitts at Carambola is an option for adults interested in a hands-on class. The session lasts about 90 minutes; allow extra time for travel and arrival. Review the live ticket and do not assume a rum class includes port transfers or a beach bed.
For the scenic railway or a visit to Brimstone Hill, confirm the full schedule and what is included before adding another activity. Our things-to-do guide compares the main interests so you can build a coherent day instead of a rushed list.
Make the meeting easy
For our two shore excursions, meet at the St. Kitts Statue at Port Zante in Basseterre. This is the designated taxi meeting point for these packages, not a general meeting point for every tour sold at the port. Use your confirmation for the agreed pickup time and instructions for identifying your driver.
Open the Port Zante meeting-area map. Keep your confirmation available offline. If you cannot identify the driver, contact the team before leaving the meeting area or joining another vehicle.
Direct encounter guests instead meet at Carambola Beach Club at least 15 minutes before their session. A US$99 direct ticket does not automatically include the Port Zante pickup or the Timothy Hill stop.
A few questions before you reserve
Before committing to a cruise excursion, confirm the pickup and planned return times, the exact meeting place and the terms if your ship changes its call. Included return transport describes the itinerary; ask separately about any missed-ship protection rather than assuming it is part of a ticket.
The direct encounter’s published policy allows a full refund for cancellation at least 48 hours ahead, and when a cruise ship cannot dock in St. Kitts or an itinerary change makes participation impossible, including within 48 hours. No-shows and late arrivals that miss the activity are nonrefundable. The two shore packages require their own terms to be confirmed before payment. Read the policy and its scope.
Five things to save before you leave the ship
- Your ship’s all-aboard time and the time zone it is using.
- Your booking confirmation, selected package and pickup instructions.
- The exact return meeting point and agreed return time.
- The contact details for your booking team, available offline.
- Your towel, swimwear, sun protection and a way to keep essentials dry.

Your questions, answered.
Can I book the direct encounter while visiting on a cruise?
Yes, provided the timing works. Direct booking meets at Carambola and excludes pickup. Compare the shore excursions if you want Port Zante pickup and return transport included.
Is the shore excursion only one hour?
The encounter at Carambola lasts one hour. Transfers and the Timothy Hill stop add time; the beach-break option also adds two hours at the beach. Confirm the complete timing with the team.
Can I walk around Basseterre from Port Zante?
Central Basseterre is a practical option for independent sightseeing. See our walking guide and choose a route that suits your time and mobility.
Does every Carambola activity include a cruise pickup?
No. Transport depends on the ticket. Both Stingray Lagoon shore excursions include port transfers; direct encounter and rum-class bookings have their own arrangements.
Where do I meet the Stingray Lagoon shore-excursion driver?
At the St. Kitts Statue at Port Zante in Basseterre, at the time confirmed for your package. Direct encounter guests meet at Carambola instead. See both meeting points.
What happens if my cruise ship cannot dock?
The direct stingray booking has a full-refund exception if your ship cannot dock in St. Kitts or an itinerary change prevents participation. Shore-excursion policies must be confirmed for the chosen package. Read cancellation details.
What time does the stingray encounter depart?
Stingray departures are at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM, St. Kitts local time. The encounter lasts one hour. Direct guests should arrive at Carambola Beach Club at least 15 minutes before their confirmed start time. Port Zante pickups are 35 minutes before the lagoon session: 9:25 AM for 10:00 AM, 11:25 AM for 12:00 PM, and 1:25 PM for 2:00 PM. All times are St. Kitts local time.
